Thanks to a sudden jump in the number of people made aware of Qui-Gon's birthday, he's found himself hanging around the house far more company than he'd previously anticipated. Not that he dislikes the idea—after all, even the most restless of Jedi needed some downtime—but it's a surprise nonetheless.
So when Lune comes home, Qui-Gon's just finishing up cleaning a few dishes. At the sound of the door clicking shut, the old Jedi peeks through the hallway and smiles when he sees Lune. The eight-year-old has shown that he's more than capable of taking care of himself, so Qui-Gon never really worried when he found his room empty, but it was always a relief to find Astri's son home safe and sound.
"Welcome back. There are cupcakes if you're hungry," he offers.
Lune's eyes lit up when he saw Qui-Gon there. Good, he was at home. Making his way into the kitchen, he handed the package out to him with a hint of both eagerness and nervousness. "Because it's your birthday, right...?"
"So it is," Qui-Gon replied with a smile as he bent down to take the package from Lune's hands.
He held it up to his scrutinizing gaze, as if trying to guess what was inside, but quickly shifted his eyes so they met with Lune's, giving the boy his full attention.
Once Lune gave his nod of approval, Qui-Gon started to unwrap the gift, only stopping when he freed the figure in its entirety. He examined every detail with a quick pass of his trained eye and smiled.
"Thank you, Lune. I will treasure it," he sincerely replied.
"Do you like it? I wasn't sure what you might want..." Jedi didn't really seem like the type to need much besides basic necessities, from what he's learned about them, but it'd still be nice to have a few things of your own, right?
Qui-Gon held the figure so it lay flat across his palms and closed his eyes. He cleared his mind of any troubled thoughts and focused on the calmness of the moment.
Sure enough, the figure began to stir, lifting out of his hands.
Lune's eyes lit up in delight when it actually floated and he reached out to poke it, making it drift away a little but still stay afloat. He could feel Qui-Gon wasn't using the Force to lift it either. "It looks like it's swimming."
"Fitting for our dear Sosyne," Qui-Gon remarked as he watched the figure slowly duck through the air.
He held out a hand as a landing pad and the toy whale gently lowered itself into his palm. Content, Qui-Gon gave a smile and held it firm as he addressed Lune again.
