Ahhh yeah...that makes sense. Honestly I mostly know about making this shit cause pa forced me too as a kid to take over the family business.

[He looks down at the plate of food.]

Well there's various fish that I get from a few fishmongers and even some friends bringing 'em in. The raw slices are sashimi...that's just raw pieces of fish. [He does on to describe some of the fish. It's pretty obvious that he knows what he's talking about.]

Sushi is the same thing, but in a bed of rice! It's made so you don't need chopsticks to eat em like the sashimi. I've brushed them with a bit of soya sauce and I've been working on making my own flavoring for the rice too.

Have you used chopsticks before? Do they use those in space?

[He then points to the Dim sum.]

These are modified versions from the menu we serve at the spa. The original owner had these, I just added a more Japanese twist to 'em since I'm more knowledgeable about those, and some vegetarian options.

There are steamed dumplings with various meats, some with local vegetables, fried glutinous rice dough balls, and some salad to go along with everything. [Aka what he will be mostly eating today. He looks less knowledgeable about the dishes, but he's trying. There's a huge difference between 'started making this 6 months ago' vs 'dad's been beating me this fish shit since I was 6']

Pccht! Rules. Well yeah, there are. If you ate at my dad's restaurant, you'd need to do it by the Japanese social rules, but I was never a guy to dwell too much on it, you know?

[He's still going to explain them, just that if Qui-Gon doesn't want to do it, he doesn't really care.]

Basic rule; eat it with the fish side to your tongue. I'd also start with the lighter tasting fish, which uh, I've been told are these...[He points to a few.] then, finish with the other. There's also some gari if you want to clean your palate after each bite along with water. It's pickled ginger, but I'm not sure if it tastes exactly like home...hard to make everything like home when they don't have the same stuff.

Heh heh...yeah that's the type of verb pops would use to describe the food too.

[He nods to himself before eating part of the his own food.]

Did anyone show you chopsticks? We use 'em all over in Japan to eat just about anything. Which is why a lot of the food is either long like noodles or all chopped up by the chef before bein' eaten.
